WHAT ARE YOUR UNITS USED FOR?
Our units have a wide range of uses, but are often used for storing "toys" such as RV's, campers, boats, and car collections due to the the climate control options and electric receptacles for battery maintenance. Some units are used for business purposes, storing equipment or product inventory, and some tenants have even built lofts for office space above!
WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS TO BECOME EXEMPT FROM OHIO SALES TAX?
WHAT ARE THE COSTS OF RENTING A UNIT?
The monthly rent for each unit varies by its size, but currently ranges from $550 to $650 per month. According to Ohio Revised Code ("R.C.") section 5739.01(B)(9), storage units are also subject to Ohio sales tax of 7.5%, unless tax exempt. Additionally, tenants will also pay for their unit's metered electric and propane usage, and are required to carry renters insurance to cover personal property inside of the unit.
Ohio Revised Code ("R.C.") section 5739.01(B)(9) applies the sales tax to all transactions by which tangible personal property is or is to be stored, except such property that the consumer holds for sale in the regular course of business, including raw material storage, in-process material storage or finished goods storage.
HOW DO I BECOME EXEMPT FROM OHIO SALES TAX ON THESE STORAGE UNITS?
If a tenant is exempt from sales tax, a completed Ohio Sales and Use Tax Blanket Exemption Certificate must be provided upon lease execution.
